Experienced cyclists are being sought to tackle a gruelling 300km route in 2 days in aid of charity, as the Emergency Fire & Rescue Unit launches its second edition of its Cycles for Charity campaign.EFRU events coordinates said that the route will see cyclists take the ferry to the Sicilian town of Pozzallo on May 8, from where they will cycle to Lentini. The next day, they will be cycling to Syracuse and back to Pozzallo to catch the 2100h ferry back to Malta.
The event will be in aid of the Eden-Razzett Foundation, which offers therapeutic, leisure and other services to over 1,000 persons with a disability. The European Institute of Education is the main sponsor of the event.
The EFRU was set up in 2006 to assist local authorities in case of a national emergency, or when they are officially called upon. The unit, manned by unpaid volunteers, trains continuously in various disciplines including rescue and fire-fighting.
The event is open to experienced cyclists, and participants will be limited to 20 for safety reasons. Applications can be downloaded from www.efru.net.
The form need to be submitted to the organising team by not later than February 15. A mandatory cyclists’ meeting will be held on February 18, and the cyclists will be required to undergo intensive team training.
